According to a recent report from industry sources in Korea, Apple is anticipated to unveil its inaugural foldable device by 2026 or 2027. The device is projected to feature an internal screen size ranging between 7 and 8 inches, potentially positioning it as a substitute for the iPad mini within Apple’s product lineup, as suggested by certain rumors.

Nevertheless, the precise specifications and attributes of this foldable device have not been definitively established. Additionally, Apple’s ongoing exploration of a new generation iPad mini outfitted with an OLED screen raises questions about the coherence of swiftly discontinuing it in favor of the foldable device.

In related developments, reports indicate that Apple is poised to integrate OLED screens into its iPad Pro series later this year. Consequently, the introduction of an OLED-equipped iPad mini would likely be deferred until the subsequent year.

Both Samsung Display and LG Display purportedly provided Apple with prototypes of foldable screen panels spanning the 6 to 7-inch size spectrum. However, recent indications suggest that Apple may opt for larger panels for its inaugural foldable device.

Should Apple proceed with the foldable device initiative, it is highly probable that it would initially collaborate with Samsung Display, leveraging its extensive expertise in supplying foldable panels to Samsung Electronics. LG Display, on the other hand, is expected to commence mass production of foldable panels for Apple approximately one year subsequent to Samsung, if Apple adopts a dual-supplier strategy.

Looking further ahead, around 2028, Apple may potentially introduce a foldable product boasting a 20.25-inch screen, to be branded either as an iPad or a Mac. It is worth noting that the 20.25-inch measurement pertains to the internal, foldable screen size.
