Honor and Nokia have signed a 5G patent license agreement

5G patent license

Nokia announced a 5G patent license deal with Honor, encompassing their essential innovations in 5G and cellular technologies, as stated in the official press release.

Nokia highlights this as its fourth significant smartphone agreement in the last year, emphasizing its extensive patent portfolio of approximately 20,000 patent families, with over 6,000 related to essential 5G technology. The specific terms of the Honor-Nokia agreement remain undisclosed.

Interestingly, while Honor chose a licensing agreement, Oppo, another Chinese company, has encountered legal challenges with Nokia in parts of Europe, possibly hinting at future developments.

Nokia previously extended patent agreements with Samsung and Apple in 2023. With Honor now part of the agreement, Nokia’s approach seems geared toward collaboration rather than legal disputes, unlike its history with Oppo.
